Application information

Intended study programme at the University of Graz: Doctorate

Nationality: EU/ EEA

University entrance qualification: obtained in one of the countries listed here

When applying you need to present the following original documents:

  • Application for Enrollment for international students
  • Evidence of accomplished Bachelor & Master degree/ Diploma degree (diploma(s) and transcript(s) of records with ECTS or contact hours)
  • Copy of ID card/ passport
  • Language Certificate

For certain doctoral studies you need to present additional documents:

Doctorate at the Faculty of Environmental, Regional and Educational Sciences:

  • Abstract of Master/ Diploma Thesis
  • Index and Bibliography of Master/ Diploma Thesis

The application has to include original documents. Legalized copies are NOT accepted!

Legalisation of original documents

FULL DIPLOMATIC LEGALISATION: Original documents first have to go through the internal legalization procedure within the country in which they have been issued (e.g. Ministry of Education) and the last authority has to be the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the respective country. Afterwards the documents must additionally be legalized (over-legalized) diplomatically by the Austrian diplomatic representation (embassy, consulate, honorary consulate) in the respective country.

Translations

If the original document has not been issued in English or German, a translation into German or English is mandatory.

The translation has to be issued by a sworn translator!

Please keep in mind that the translation has to be linked with the original document or with a certified copy.

Application deadline

For the doctorate there are more generous application deadlines, meaning that application is also possible after the end of the grace period (winter semester on the 30 November and summer semester on the 30 April).

However, we recommend to apply as soon as possible and to take into consideration the start of lectures. If you submit the application later, admission in the same semester cannot be guaranteed.

Processing time

The application process can take several weeks. Please take this into account when planning your studies. Also note that admission might not be possible in the semester applied for.

Tuition fee

Regular students with an EU/ EEA nationality only pay the student union fee per semester as long as they study in the minimum study duration (+ grace semester).
