Intention to study

In their written application, applicants should state their intention to study a certain programme for which a secondary school leaving examination is expressly required.

Minimum age

Applicants must be at least 20 years old.


Applicants must either be Austrian nationals or nationals of a member state of the European Economic Area.


Equivalent applicants must have command of German as required for admission as a degree programme student, otherwise they will have to pass a supplementary examination in German before they can be admitted to the University Entrance Qualification Examination course.

Required education level

Applicants must prove that they have acquired compulsory education and successfully trained in a profession or secondary school relating to the selected study programme.


Evidence of successfully acquired professional or educational qualifications may include the following:


  • Certificates from a vocational training school, technical colleges or secondary schools
  • Certificates from educational institutions offering continuous education or professional service qualifications
  • Certificates of university courses
