Calculating the study duration and semester fee
Previously registered semesters count in case study programmes that have been closed are re-opend. This is especially the case for diploma programmes that are still available (e.g. Law) and doctorat programmes.
Prevoiusly registered semesters do not count if a student changes the study programme from an old diploma study programme to a new related bachelor programme (eg. diploma Psychology to Bachelor Psychology).
Austrian-/EU-/EEA- Citizens
For calculating the study duration, each registered regular study programme is taken into account. Based on the data of the registration system it is calculated which students have exeeded the tuition fee free period.
During the tuition free period (minimum study duration + tolerance semester), only the student union fee (ÖH fee) has to be paid for each semester. After the tuition fee free period is over, the tuition fee as well as the ÖH fee has to be paid each semester. In case a legal cause for excemption of the tuition fee applies, it is possible to get another remission of the tuition fee. Detailed information about that can be found here: Remission of the tuition fee and Reimbursement of the tuition fee.
International degree students
Students from countries listed in appendix of Tuition Fee Regulation - which are the poorest countries on Earth - only have to pay the student union fee each semester. It is not relevant in which semester they are registered.
Students from all other countries, so called Third Countries, generally have to pay the tuition fee of € 726,72 plus the student union fee (ÖH fee) each semester. It is not relevant in which semester they are registered.
There are, however, reasons for exemptions. If these apply, students can get an equal status as EU citizens and can be exempt from the tuition fee during the tuition fee free period (minimum study duration + tolerance semester). Detailed information can be found under “International degree students”.
Students from Southeastern Europe
Students from all other countries, so called Third Countries, generally have to pay each semester the tuition fee of € 726,72 plus the student union fee (ÖH fee) . It is not relevant in which semester they are registered.
There are exceptions here: Students from Southeastern Europe or International degree students
Regulations for diploma study programmes
Due to the amendment of § 91 of the University Act and the revocation of the statute "Studienbeitrag" (tuition fee) of the University of Graz by the constitutional Tribunal in 2013, there is no effective normative basis that allows to transfer a tolerance semester of a study section - studied in the minimum study duration - into another study section.
